'Midwood'
Elegant Architecture Encapsulated In Greenery

Journey back to a time when artistic sentiments dominated the minds of homeowners and homebuilders. Joseph G. Coleman of Chicago had this home built for his family by one of the most notable architects of the period, Reginald D. Johnson. The setting was a verdant wood. The mood intoned; a summer evening. The Architect's and Craftsmen's artistry shaped the mood by virtue of regal, yet elegantly scaled spaces that always welcome with comfort, yet awe with beauty.

The sight lines transport one to the many patios and gardens that envelope the home. Renowned Santa Barbara landscape architect Lockwood de Forest helped create the textures that dreamily waft into the home, as well as siren call one out into the color accentuated wood.

The spacious entry welcomes with enticing glimpses of things to come. Straight ahead is an open gallery hall leading to patios and the family quarters. To the right is the living room. It's a room that captures your attention with stenciled roughhewn ceilings that soar, a magnificent fireplace, large southern facing windows and inviting French doors opening onto the very large covered patio (a room unto itself) that overlooks the front gardens. To the left is the dining room. Dramatically rich colors set the room afloat in warmth. The kitchen opens to the family room creating a big, friendly space. Near the family room is a bedroom suite that's perfect for nannies or overnight visitors. Beautiful Hardwood Floors are throughout the home.

Through a collection of citrus trees, off in it's own private setting, is a pool and spa. To the east is a splendid rose garden. The lawns and shrubbery to the north and south provide romping space as well as green nook's to escape within.

This wood sits between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The architecture and the landscape magnificently match this natural splendor, the splendor of Montecito. 'Midwood' spins a spell of enviable old world beauty served on a platter of present day comforts; a way of life devoutly to be wished!
