In 1973, he was awarded High School Coach of the Year by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table, and left Dos Pueblos as Athletic Director in 1982.
Dick had the rare opportunity to work for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee as Venue Director of the Rowing, Canoeing and Kayaking Events at Lake Casitas, where he oversaw a multi-million dollar budget and a crew of over 800 staffers. Following the Olympic Games, Dick stepped into the role of Vice President/Operations of a 130 person international architectural firm. This role built on Dick's expertise in management and communication, where he negotiated leases with national retail chains, law firms, UC Santa Barbara, and Antioch University.
