Country in the City!

Located on a desirable private lane, the natural setting of the land inspired the owners to remodel with rural Italy in mind, but with a modern slant.  This home is all about gardens, gentle island and mountain views, with open spaces both inside and out.

Extensive remodeling in 2008 created a sundrenched home with a very flexible, open floor plan, soaring ceilings and multiple French doors throughout. At the center of the home, the oversized Great Room serves as both the formal living and dining areas. Location: Las Canoas Lane is arguably the prettiest road in the foothills. It is a private road that sits on a ridge running east/west with the mountains to the north and the ocean to the south. With only 14 residents on the lane, it is very peaceful and serene. Situated on the very lowest levels of the foothills this home is within the City limits.

Entryway: Covered exterior landing and interior hall share limestone flooring for cohesiveness.  Upon entering through the custom wood door your eye is drawn to the soaring ceilings of the living room and the views.

Great Room: This semi formal expansive room serves as both the living and dining areas.  Features include a 12 ft beamed ceiling, a fireplace constructed with reclaimed imported tiles and three sets of French doors opening to the balcony, gardens and views.

Library / Morning room: Adjacent to the living room, this wonderful nook has become the favorite room of the owners.  With windows on three sides it basks in morning light with views of the mountains and the islands.  At night it is a cozy spot that is quiet and peaceful.

Kitchen: This is a great design for cooking and entertaining at the same time!   The u-shaped work area gives access to generous counter space and appliances while guests gather at the breakfast bar or sit at the table in the window nook.  Granite counters, custom tile, high-end appliances and great storage make this area very functional.  The room is full of light with southern exposure and opens to the balcony.

Family Room: Located just off the kitchen this room could also double as a separate formal dining room.  The sloped, wood-beamed ceiling creates a feeling of intimacy yet the room is bright and spacious with a skylight and French doors opening to a stone patio, lawn and gardens.

Master Bedroom Suite: Escape to your inner sanctum!  The suite has 12 ft high ceilings, a generous walk-in closet, French doors to a private balcony overlooking the gardens and a separate office that also opens to the private balcony.  The luxurious limestone bath includes a tub, large stall shower, double sinks, and exterior door that leads to a private patio and hot tub.

Bedrooms 2 & 3: Located in a separate wing of the house these two rooms have high ceilings, great light and share a full bath designed with limestone.  One room has an exterior door to the front patio.

Bedroom 4 / Guest Quarter / Playroom: Located on the lower level this large room is a suite onto itself.  A 10 foot ceiling and great light make this room very airy and versatile with a full bath and private patio.

Balcony: All balconies/decks are of extra hard Ipe wood, moisture, pest and fire resistant.  The iron railing work is custom-designed following an Italian Art Deco motif.

Gardens: More than $100,000 had been invested in the landscape with an eye to a natural environment cohesive with the rural setting.  Many specimen plants coexist with native planting.    There is a large meadow, formally used as a stable area, two separate lawns closer to the house and garden beds.  There is a yet to be developed area with separate road access that would be perfect for a hidden garden, green house or accessory building.

Driveway: Generous paved areas can accommodate 5 cars off street in addition to the 2 car garage.
